This is a picture that was published in Navy and Army Illustrated in 1898. It shows an officer and privates wearing the scarlet frock. The officer wears a haversack over his right shoulder and his pouchbelt over his left. The pouch on his back carries binoculars. He also has a sword and sabretache suspended from a waistbelt worn beneath the frock tunic.
