Skinner's Horse

Daffadar, 1893

Because of 19th photography, this photo is misleading; the dark colour of the daffadar's kurta is in fact yellow. The collar and cuffs are black with gold lace. There is a thin red edge to the cuff and just below the collar. Down the front, the brass buttons are on a black strip with thin gold braid and red piping on the edge. The sash round his waist is red and the Sam Browne belt is brown leather fastened with a brass plate decorated with a white metal 1 over a BC monogram. The silver shoulder chains have a brass badge in the middle and his chevrons are gold on red cloth. His turban is mostly red with gold and black stripes. Breeches are white and boots black.
