Queen's Own Hussars

Presentation of the Guidon 1959

This painting by John Gilroy depicts the presentation of the new guidon to the Queen's Own Hussars at Tidworth on 20th March 1959. The presentation was made by the Colonel-in-Chief of the joint regiment HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and the ceremony was also attended by HRH Princess Margaret who was Colonel-in-Chief of the 3rd Hussars. To the right of the picture are chaplains who officiated at the dedication of the guidon. Archdeacon VJ Pike, chaplain to the Queen and Chaplain-General to the Forces is probably the one in red.
