Queen's Royal Hussars

Lieut-Colonel Ian Mortimer

Ian Mortimer is currently (May 2012) in command of the Queen's Royal Hussars in Halmand Province, Afghanistan. The regiment is working towards the handover of power to the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). Col Mortimer is seen here shaking hands with Lt-Col Abdullah Karem Khan on the occasion of the handover of the patrol base at Jahan Zeb on 12th Feb 2012. The comfortable, air-conditioned buildings makes a welcome change for the Afghan troops from what they have been used to. Col Mortimer has also presided over relinquishing border checkpoints, notably Checkpoint Dosti in April 2012.
