Major in Mess Kit c1886

The mess jacket was scarlet with blue collar and cuffs. There was a gold Russia braid edging all around. Field officers had the circlets of gold braid on the collar, lieut-cols and colonels had these circlets on the upper and lower sides of the cuff braid but majors had the circles only on the upper side. He has embroidered regimental badges on both sides of his collar, and gold shoulder cords with silver embroidered crowns. The waistcoat is blue with gold braid edging. This was later changed to a smarter half-inch gold lace. The jacket has gold studs down the front and is fastened with a slim braid loop at the neck. He has a high white shirt collar but the front of his shirt above the waistcoat is unclear in this photo. The name of this major is unknown. The photo was published in Military Modelling magazine in 2004.
