Killiecrankie Pass

This picturesque view of the valley of Killiecrankie may not show the actual area of the battle in 1689 but the steepness of the hillsides suggests that any army passing through would have to keep a wary eye on the heights. The narrative of General Mackay's memoirs speaks of his army reaching a point at the end of the pass where the floor of the valley levelled out.
