Officer 1816

A portrait of an officer who is not named, only that he was in the 3rd Battalion that fought at Waterloo.' It was painted in Paris in 1816.' He has a gilt gorget at his neck, the detail enables us to see how it was attached.' The buff collar is plain but has silver buttons either side, with a twist of buff silk cord as a button loop.' Similar button loops were on his cuffs. The gorget has buff silk rosettes at the corners, and the strings loop over the buttons.' His silver epaulette is clearly shown, the other shoulder is bare, meaning that he is an officer below field rank. The sword belt on his right shoulder has a silver oval belt-plate with a gilt number 14.'
