Zulu War Queen's Colour

This cigarette card depicts the Queen's Colour that was famously saved by Melvill and Coghill at Isandhlwana in 1879. It now hangs in the Havard Chapel in Brecon Cathedral. In this illustration it has the metal wreath which was presented to the 24th Regiment at Osborne House on 28th July 1880. There are 10 battle honours which were sewn on after the First World War. Up until 1922 regiments were not permitted to have battle honours on the Queen's Colour. This indicates that the Colour was paraded by the South Wales Borderers up to and including the years after the Great War.
