Tientsin 1914



These men of the 2nd Battalion are dressed in special cold weather caps for service in China. The battalion were sent to British controlled Tientsin, China in 1912. When war broke out they were part of the Japanese force that invaded and captured the German base at Tsingtao, the only British unit involved. Afterwards they went on to Hong Kong and then home in 1915. On 25th April 1915 they were part of the invasion force in the Dardenelles.
