Pyche Raja


Pyche Raja, or Cotiote Raja, now known as Pazhassi Raja, is a legendary figure in Indian history for his defiance of British rule. He was born in 1753 as Kerala Varma, a Hindu prince who became head of the kingdom of Cotiote (Kottayam) in Malabar, from 1774 to 1805. The war with the East India Company was known as the Cotiote War and he was regarded as the Lion of Kerala. He was killed in action on 30 Nov 1805 at Mavila Thodu.
