Lord Belper


Henry Strutt was born at St Helen's House Derby on 20th May 1840. He was styled the Hon Henry Strutt from 1856 to 1880 and educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, gaining an LLB and MA. He was a businessman who ran the family cotton firm. He was also a Liberal politician but later became a Liberal Unionist. He and his wife had 3 sons and 5 daughters.

1868 MP for East Derbyshire
1874 Married to Lady Margaret Coke
1879 Colonel Commandant of South Notts Yeomanry
1880 MP briefly for Berwick-on-Tweed
1880 Succeeded to the title 2nd Baron Belper and went to House of Lords
1894 To 1914 he was ADC to the Queen Vctoria, King Edward and King George V.
1895 Privy Council and Captain of the Hon Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms
1914 Died on 26th July.
