Back of Colour Sergeant’s Jacket 1822

The back of the jacket belonging to Colour Sergeant Nicholl shows the seams and the back skirts or tails. The white turn-backs are sewn on, so are purely ornamental. The false pocket flaps have four white metal buttons with short white lace button-hole loops The lace is doubled, showing a red light between. White lace also edges the white turn-backs as can be seen on close inspection. The blue stylised grenade badges adorn the two turn-backs as well as the small white squares on the Grenadier Company shoulder wings. The white lace triangle in the middle of the back indicates waist level and has two silver buttons on the lower corners. The blue cuffs can be seen to have slits at the back. Colour Sgt Nicholl was a tall man, 6’2”.
