Home Service Helmet 1878


The Infantry were issued with the blue cloth home service helmet in 1878 to replace the shako. This officer’s helmet dates from 1878 to 1881 when the regiment were required to drop the ‘VIII’ in the title and adopt 'The King’s Liverpool Regiment'. The 2nd Battalion were in India at the time, and the 1st Battalion in Aden, returning to the UK in 1880.
