Colours, 2nd Battalion, 1905

The King’s Colour and Regimental Colour of the King’s Liverpool Regiment are displayed in this photo of 1905. The Regimental Sergeant Major stands in the middle with a Colour-Sergeant either side. They wear the peakless Brodrick cap which was blue with a red patch on the front and the regimental badge.

The King’s Colour is the Union flag with the regimental badge in the centre, surmounted by a Victorian crown. The Roman numeral II is in the upper canton.

The Regimental Colour, on the right, has the badge in the centre, surrounded by the Union wreath and surmounted also by the Victorian crown. There are six battle honours on each side, with the Sphinx of EGYPT at the base. The crown indicates that these are late 19th century Colours and would therefore not include the honours for the South African War. The only new addition to the 1890 Colour was BURMA 1885-87.
