The Portsmouth Captains


This print was published at the time of the trouble, in September 1688. The two portraits at the top are The Hon Col John Beaumont and The Hon Capt Thos Paston. The two in the middle are Capt Simon Packe and Capt Thomas Orme. The lower two are Capt John Port and Capt William Cooke. The motto at the base of the print, ‘Pro Latria Patria Atria’ may be translated as ‘For their religion, their country and their homes’.
