Cap Badge

This badge was worn on the glengarry or field service cap of the Yorkshire Regiment. It is the badge illustrated in the 1900 Dress Regulations so is Victorian. The crown is not that of Queen Victoria, it is the coronet of the Princess of Wales. Beneath it is the A for Alexandra and the Dagmar Cross of Denmark, sometimes referred to as the Dannebrog. The Princess of Wales was born in Copenhagen, the daughter of Prince Christian. In 1875 she presented the regiment with new Colours and consented to have the Yorkshire Regiment named after her. The date 1875 can be seen in the middle of the cross. The regimental title is displayed on scrolls around the badge, in silver metal, laid on a wreath of roses.
