Signallers on NZ Hill

Signallers of the Yorkshire Regiment with a heliograph on New Zealand Hill in Jan 1900. This is one side of a stereoscopic photo produced for sale by Underwood & Underwood during the Boer War. The privates send and receive messages from battalion HQ or General French at Slingersfontein Farm. Behind them are stone sangers, temporary walls erected where the ground is too hard to dig a trench.
