CSM Stanley Elton Hollis VC

Battledress WW2 The battledress blouse is well shown in this portrait of WO2 CSM Stanley Elton Hollis VC. The photos that were taken of him at Buckingham Palace on 10 Oct 1944 where he was given his VC by King George VI, show the same battledress blouse but buttoned up to the top. Here the top is opened to reveal a khaki shirt and tie as worn by officers. The blouse is buttoned to the waist so that the buttons are visible. Some types of battledress have a fly front. The green lanyard is plaited along its whole length and worn on the left shoulder. The Green Howards curved shoulder title is in red with white embroidered lettering. Below that is the TT Divisional badge of the 50th Northumbrian Infantry Division and two smaller formation badges below that. His badge of rank is shown on both forearms, a wreathed crown on a dark green background, the badge of a Company Sergeant Major. The VC medal is worn with his other medal ribbons. Next to the crimson ribbon is the 1939-45 star, then the Africa Star 1940-43 with an 8 in the middle for 8th Army. Next to that is the Italy Star 1943-45.
