Ellaline Terriss

Ellaline Terriss was born (Mary) Ellaline Lewin on 13 April 1871 at the Ship Hotel in Port Stanley. She was the eldest of the three children of William Charles James Lewin, and his wife, Isabel Lewis. She went to become one of the most successful musical comedy actresses of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods in London and the West End. Her father had moved to the islands to try life as a sheep farmer. On the return trip to Britain, there was a mutiny on the ship and her father was elected the new 'captain' for the remainder of the voyage.
