Piracy Poster

The trial of Spanish pirates was something of a sensation in the United States. President Jackson was delighted that the Royal Navy had done so much to bring these people to justice. Don Pedro Gilbert and 3 other of the convicted pirates were actually the last ever executed for piracy in the United States. Some 20,000 people came to watch them hang. One man was hung in a chair as he had attempted to take his own life and was too sick to be able to stand.
