Heroic Exploits of the Tenth with Nobody

This cartoon, published in April 1824, cleverly turns the regiment’s heroic claims on their head. We know that they refused to dance but the other claims may have been made up. The character of Nobody is a strange, short figure with no apparent torso, just arms, legs and head. The captions alone deny duelling, running away, dancing, playing cards and insulting ladies but the pictures tell a different story so that the officers of the 10th Hussars come across as cowardly, hapless and arrogant. The cartoon is courtesy of the Brown University.
