Drilling One Tenth of the Military

George Cruikshank etched this cartoon on 15 April 1824, making fun of the poor reputation gained by officers of the 10th Hussars in Ireland for their reluctance to dance or fight. The tough Irish dance teacher, Tim Dooly, taunts the terrified officer and his little dog while a disabled boy plays a tune on the bagpipes. The cartoon was kindly supplied by the British Museum.
