Officer, Levée Dress, 1829

The Dress Regulations of 1827 describe Full Dress ‘pantaloons’ for hussar officers as ‘fine scarlet web, a regimental lace between two stripes of Russia braid up each outward seam, terminating in a figure behind, a rich Austrian knot of regimental lace trimmed round with Russia braid.’ These breeches were worn with hessian boots that had gold lace and tassels (tassels not seen here). The dress uniform in the 1834 regulations does not mention pantaloons and hessian boots. This figure wears a busby which may have been reserved for levée dress. On other occasions the black, peaked shako was worn. This is taken from a print is by E Hull, published in October 1829.
