Parade 1844

Michael Angelo Hayes painted several watercolours of the 10th Hussars in 1844 while they were stationed either at Cahir or Newbridge in Ireland. In this scene the regiment are paraded in review order with a mounted officer in the foreground. He presents us with a view of his back so that we can see the lace and braid on the back of his jacket. He has a gilt chin-chain to his busby as do other officers in the painting. The officer on the right is in undress, wearing a blue frockcoat and peakless forage cap.
