Back of Colonel’s Tunic 1890s

Two photos taken at the regimental museum in Winchester c1985 show the two double rows of gold chain gimp that followed the back seams. At the top are trefoils but at the bottom of the skirt are tightly formed Austrian knots. the gimp is traced closely with gold Russia braid. At the waist are two gimp caps. The base of the tunic has a line of gimp on the hem. At the top, just below the collar is a small braid trefoil. In the righthand photo the cuff ornamentation can be seen to be an Austrian knot surrounded by swirls of gold braid, as worn by majors, lieutenant-colonels and colonels. These photos also show the back of the pouchbelt and the gold purl cord cap-lines.
