Private, Drill Order 1895

The undress uniform for drill order was the stable jacket worn with dress breeches and knee boots. The jacket is fastened down the front with 12 brass buttons and has yellow braid around the collar and on the cuffs, with a single loop on the cuff braid. There are twisted yellow cords on each shoulder with a small brass button. This private has a good-conduct white stripe on his left forearm. The breeches have a double yellow cloth stripe down the side. He wears a white leather pouch-belt with a black leather pouch on the back. His pill-box forage cap is blue with yellow cap-band and braid.

The bridle is decorated with a regimental bit boss, and has a white halter rope. There is another regimental badge on the martingale which is around the base of the horse’s neck. His saddle has a folded blue cloak strapped to the front, and his sword slotted into a leather piece on his left side. The sword slings are not fixed to the sword, but are clipped together. The semi-circular shaped pouch behind the sword holds spare horseshoes.
