Mounted Trumpeter 1884

The artist Reginald Wymer painted a scene of 10th Hussars on the march in review order, in 1884, of which this is a detail. The regiment had returned from India and the Sudan, and are here in home service uniform. The embroidered shabraque worn by other ranks had been discontinued by this time and only the black sheepskin was used to cover the saddle, and that was discontinued in 1896. He carries the trumpet which is slung from his left shoulder with the red yellow and blue cord. A crossed trumpet badge is sewn on his upper right arm.
