Drumhorse, Review Order 1895

Old Bob, the drumhorse of the 10th Hussars from 1884 to 1900 was 18 years old in this 1895 photo. The drum banners are similar to the one in the Ebsworth painting of 1852 and probably the same ones. They are a deep red colour velvet, with a simple but impressive design. Beneath the Prince of Wales Plume is a triple scroll with PENINSULA and WATERLOO either side of X. The horse furniture is based on that of the officers’ chargers, having a scarlet shabraque and cowrie shell tack. The bridoon rein is plain black leather, unlike the officer’s gold laced rein. The stirrup rein is also plain black.
