Trumpeter, India c1934

This man is named as Trumpeter Lewis and was photographed in India in the 1930s. He is in shirt-sleeve order with jodhpurs and puttees. He is equipped with a leather ammunition belt on his left shoulder, a steel helmet and a haversack. The headgear was known as a Bombay Bowler and probably adopted in the latter part of their tour of duty in India which lasted from 1928 to 1936. His sword scabbard is slotted into a leather loop on the saddle and has items attached such as a picket and rope. There is also a bag of feed for the horse on the back of the saddle. The horse’s vision must surely have been very limited with the anti-fly fringe attached to the brow-band.
