Cap Badge

The three ostrich feathers, coronet and ICH DIEN motto have traditionally been the badge of those regiments associated with the Prince of Wales. The royal connection began in 1783 when the 10th Dragoons became the 10th or Prince of Wales’s Own Light Dragoons. It continued on 16 April 1863 when the son and heir of Queen Victoria was appointed Colonel of the regiment. The title ‘Royal’ was given to the 10th in 1811 when the Prince of Wales, who was then Colonel, became Prince Regent.
