Officer’s Sabretache 1815

The uniform of the 10th Hussars was in the process of becoming the most splendid of all the cavalry regiments under the influence of the Prince Regent. This sabretache is full of wonderful detail, incorporating gold, silver lace and embroidery, and blue velvet scrolls. Below the Guelphic crown is PRINCE REGENT’S OWN with bursts of silver spangles at the ends of the scroll. The elaborate royal cypher GP is in silver. The Roman numeral X is in gold and the battle honour PENINSULA on blue velvet is underscored by a gold laurel spray. This honour was granted on 6 April 1815, and was soon accompanied by WATERLOO which was awarded to the regiment on 8 Dec 1815.
