Officers’ Dress Tack

The museum display of 10th Hussars tack worn on officers’ chargers in review order shows the patterns created with cowrie shells on the black leather bridle at the top, the breastplate below that, and the crupper at lower left. On the lower right is the circular device attached to the bridle and was an alternative to the throat plume that was worn in drill order. Where the leatherwork was wide enough the shells were placed in threes in a shape resembling the Prince of Wales Plume. Across the top of the display is a gold laced bridoon rein. The curb rein was a slim black leather strap partially decorated with shells.
