The military suppliers of badges and uniforms in the 18th and early 19th century was Hawkes & Co. This illustration is a copy of a drawing in their pattern books. It is marked 5966 12/8/1800 [size 4.5ins x4ins over all]. There is no other explanation and it is assumed to be the badge for the right side of the Tarleton Light Dragoon helmet.
