Battle of Culloden

This detail of a well-known print of the battle depicts the ranks of Cumberland’s army lined up and facing the charging Highlanders. The Duke, on a grey horse in the foreground looks unconcerned at the struggle going on behind him. The nearest regiment is Barrell’s 4th Foot fighting at close quarters, while more Scotsmen run towards the other regiments further along the line. The 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment is at the far end of the front line with cavalry placed on their right.
