Battle of Killa Kazi

This coloured lithograph shows the heroic charge of the 9th Lancers in ordered ranks, against what looks like a deployed enemy position. But the description of the events of 11 Dec 1879 indicate otherwise. The enemy tribesmen had come teeming down from the heights, advancing on the British and Indian troops. The Horse Artillery had fired on the enemy but needed to withdraw or lose their guns. This print wrongly shows the gunners going forward, but the original lithograph, on which this is based, shows the same scene but the guns going the other way. The print was published by F Silber of Berlin and reproduced on the National Army Museum website.
