South Atlantic Seas

This picture illustrates the harsh condition of the South Atlantic Seas due largely to the fact that the Southern Hemisphere was entering its winter and the presence of the Roaring Forties. These are strong westerly winds that occur in the Southern Hemisphere, generally between the latitudes of 40° and 50° south. The Task Force ships had to deal with very tough sailing conditions throughout the conflict.
