1st Horse Drumhorse, 1750

One of the series of military paintings by David Morier (1705-1770) which were commisioned by the Duke of Cumberland. The coat he wears is similar to the state coat worn by musicians in the Household Division today, but instead of crimson velvet and gold lace, this coat is of pale blue and scarlet cloth with silver lace. The drum banners are of pale blue damask with silver embroidery and fringed edge, and IH on a scarlet ground wreathed with roses and thistles.
