Band, 1848

The uniforms are similar to the other ranks of the 4th DG except for the red plume on their newly issued helmet, their gold fringed epaulettes and their lack of a pouchbelt. The drummer appears to be the only man in the regiment with a beard. He has a thin dark strap over his left shoulder which I am unable to account for. From this reproduction it is difficult to see whether the drum is the painted sort or if it is a drum-banner.
