Museum Exhibit of Officer's Uniform (back)

The Royal Dragoons Museum in York has this life size model of horse and rider dressed with the uniform of an officer of the 7th DG. It is difficult to determine the date of the uniform as it is probably a collection from different sources. The back view of the officer's uniform shows the pre-1880 pouch with the VR cypher and royal crown. After that date the silver flap was decorated with a coronet and PRDG. The pouch-belt is covered with the same S and vellum pattern of gold lace as the waist-belt, and the gilt fittings are of smooth flat gilt with wavy edges and the tip has a black velvet backing. The back skirts of the tunic are clearly shown here with the false pockets edged with the same gold cord and Russia braid that is used on the sleeves. The rear vent in the middle is edged in black cloth like the front edge of the tunic. Two gilt buttons either side of the vent help support the waist-belt and have red piping extending down to the hem.
