Spooner Print of a Mounted Officer, 1833

Prints are notoriously inaccurate when it comes to uniform, but Mansion and Eschauzier, the artists who produced this series of uniform prints were very careful to get it right. The horse furniture especially was something they drew very well. The bridle worn by the officer's horse in this picture is almost exactly the same as that worn by the regiment today. The gilt and silver device on the browband is peculiar to the Blues. The shabraque is the same except for the battle honours. But if you compare it with the shabraque in the photo (see Photo of Mounted Officer 1865) you will see that there is no difference. Behind the officer can just be seen the band in their state coats of gold lace.
