27th Regiment of Foot

Other Ranks' Lace

The lace used to decorate the cuffs, lapels and edging to the mens' uniforms of the 27th changed three times as from the period around 1742. The first pattern had two yellow worms running the length of the lace. In 1751 the Morier paintings show lace with a central yellow stripe and a blue zig-zag on one side and a black zig-zag on the other. The final pattern laid down in the 1768 Warrant stipulated 'dark blue stripe on the very outside edge, red stripe on the very inside edge; on white.' This last pattern was worn on the 1802 and 1815 uniforms.
