Grenadier Corporal 1811

Officers' jackets were scarlet instead of red and made of finer material. They were double breasted with two rows of silver buttons, equally spaced, and no lace. The buttonholes were decorated with twists of buff silk. At the back of the jacket there were short tails. Officers in full dress had long tailed coatees with the lapels turned back at the top to reveal the facing colour. Light company officers had red shoulder wings overlaid with silver inter-linked rings or scales with a bugle badge placed on the point of the shoulder. Round his waist is a crimson silk corded sash which has tassels on the ends of the cords. The buff leather sword-belt has a simple silver belt-plate with '31' inscribed, and a whistle on a chain for messages to be relayed in the field. The sword is curved and slung in the style of a cavalry officer. His shako is similar to the mens' except that it has a silver stringed bugle badge instead of the large brass badge. Officers of battalion companies still wore the bicorn hat.
