Grenadier Officer 1774

The grenadier companies from each regiment were often brought together to fight as grenadier battalions. This was the case in the American War of Independence. The illustration shown here is by Bob Marrion. The officer wears a similar coat to the battalion companies but has a belt over each shoulder. One is for his sword and bayonet, the other is for ammunition, since the officers of flank companies carried a rifle. He has a silver epaulette on each shoulder and a gorget at his throat. The grenadier cap is of black fur and has a blackened silver cap plate on the front.
