Field Officer 1802

A miniature portrait by Adam Buck, dated 1802. The officer is not named but he has black facings with a white piped edge and silver buttons and epaulettes. Officers below the rank of major had one epaulette on the right shoulder; this officer has one on each shoulder so must be a major or lieutenant-colonel. He has a medal hanging from a button on his left breast which may be an award for service in Egypt the previous year, but campaign medals were not issued until Waterloo. The sword belt is just visible but the belt plate is unclear.
