Field Officer, 1st Battalion c1806

The officer in this miniature by H B Kirchhoffer is called Lieutenant John Kent but he has two silver epaulettes, denoting field rank. The black collar and lapels are not edged with white piping like the 1802 miniature and there is no button on the collar. The sword belt has a silver belt plate which probably formed the basis of Parkyn's sketch of a 1st battalion belt plate. See Officer's Belt-Plates c1809 The 50th were sent to Portugal in 1808, fighting at Vimiera and retreating to Corunna.
