Privates 1865


These sketches made from life by Lt-Col E A Williams RA whilst the 50th were in New Zealand. They are dated 24th March 1856 and the two men are named as John Lawrence, on the left, and Henry Jones. They are wearing black Kilmarnock caps, blue frocks and Oxford mixture trousers with a red stripe down the outer seam. Jones has his trousers rolled up. Their blankets are rolled and carried over the left shoulder. Lawrence has a mess tin attached to his ammunition pouch.
