Cuff Detail, Private's Coat 1852

Sketches made by Percy Sumner from an actual coat show the plain blue round cuff with a red slash flap decorated with pewter buttons and white lace loops. The false pockets on the coat skirts are similarly arranged. The three chevrons on the right sleeve denote many years of good conduct which earned the wearer extra pay.

Collar and Skirt Detail 1852.
