The Gordons


Officers in Service Dress 1944


Field Marshal Montgomery inspects the 5th/7th Battalion Gordon Highlanders at Beaconsfield prior to the invasion of Normandy in June 1944. The officers are in service dress with the battledress top and kilt. The men are in full battledress for operational service, the kilt having been put aside. They wear the khaki Tam o'Shanter and the officers wear the diced band glengarry. Khaki hose of varying shades are worn with brown shoes and red ribbon garters in the Gordons style. All the officers except the one on the left have a service dress sporran.
