Officers, Service Dress 1897

The 2nd Battalion served on the Tirah campaign of 1897/8. They wear khaki service dress with blue and white field service caps. Two officers on the left and right have poshteens which are animal skin coats with the fur on the inside. Another four are wearing the Guthrie short overcoat. Only one officer has medal ribbons, that is Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel Smith Dorrien standing third from the right, with a staff in his hand. He was a staff officer at the time but took command of the Derbyshires in 1899.
