Sowar 1901

Simkin's lithograph for the Army and Navy Gazette has these two figures, the Indian officer in a red tunic is a jemadar of the 4th Infantry, and the mounted sowar is a 3rd Lancer. He is dressed very much like the 1887 sowar but he is here wearing the 1901 khaki breeches with the 3rd regiment's black boots. The green kurta was replaced in the early 1890s by a blue one but green was restored in the late 90s. His medal looks like the India General Service medal with red and blue stripes.
